Project Mariupol
A Tool for Accountability
Project Mariupol is an interactive, open source-based platform designed to support accountability for war crimes and conflict-related atrocities. By integrating incident data with information on Russian military units, it helps investigators link alleged crimes to responsible actors.

Stage 1:
A Record of Evil
Our work focused on sourcing and mapping potential core international crimes committed in Ukraine using open source information. This initial phase demonstrated that, with proper training, even individuals new to OSINT can play a valuable role in collecting data on international crimes.
Stages of Project:
Stage 1 report developed for the project’s feedback stage
Stage 2:
A Gateway to Evidence
Following feedback, the project emphasized re-verifying information and archiving it on a more secure and reliable platform.

Stage 3: [Current Phase]
A Gateway to Accountability
Russian military unit data was overlaid onto the map, alongside an artillery range tool to assess distances between strike sites and military positions. The project strives to make the map a tool for accountability, supporting both civil society and official actors in investigating atrocities and conflict.
