Design Process

The design process for the OSINT for Ukraine website was rooted in a deep understanding of the organization’s values and the wealth of information it holds. To ensure the design reflected OFU’s mission and identity, the designer began by revisiting conversations with the team and analyzing the existing site. They mapped out key findings and ideas on a concept map, which helped shape the foundation of the visual identity and website design.

Inspired by bookshelves as a metaphorical container of knowledge, the designer envisioned the website as a dynamic archive. This concept tied seamlessly to the OFU logo, where a continuous line symbolized the spine of a book. They used this spine motif throughout the website to structure content and guide the user experience.

The design emulates the act of pulling a book from a shelf and exploring its pages. This approach emphasises organisation, clarity, and accessibility, making the vast information more digestible.

The designer prioritised a clean, uncluttered interface to ensure that users could explore content without feeling overwhelmed. Sections are designed to conceal and reveal information interactively, giving users control over what they view while maintaining ample negative space. This approach provides a sense of balance, allowing users to focus on the content at their own pace.

The website design ultimately blends functionality with visual storytelling, ensuring OFU’s mission is conveyed effectively while offering an engaging and intuitive user experience.
